Clinical Supervision (16 Hours)
Objectives
- Define clinical supervision
- Discuss the purpose of supervision
- Delineate the differences between supervision and counseling
- Identify ten principles for leadership in the new organizational structure
- Identify agency stakeholders
- Discuss what traits make an effective supervisor.
- Self-evaluate in order to be able to articulate answers to the following questions
- Identify the layers present in models of supervision
- Examine approaches to supervision including developmental, psychodynamic, the skills model,the systems model and the alcohol and drug abuse model.
- Examine unique characteristics of addictions
- Discuss what is involved in establishing a supervisory relationship, including contracts, individual development plans, referrals
- Discuss how to assess the learning environment in your supervision setting
- Learn about limits and managing the supervisory workload
- Identify multiple methods for observation and the unique strengths and weaknesses of each
- Become familiar with the five types of supervisory intervention and methods for providing feedback
- Identify the six core areas for counselor competencies
- Identify several major sources of anxiety for supervisees and methods to assist them
- Develop a list of solution-focused methods for assisting supervisees in overcoming roadblocks
- Define burnout and methods for burnout prevention
- Review Ethical and Legal Concerns including documentation of supervision and key boundary issues
